Mixed Grill
On Saturday morning, about 4 am, not being able to sleep, the Man also woke up and said he didn't feel good, and we should postpone the trip. I was only too happy to oblige. Later in the afternoon, we did make a short trip up North and ended up in Racine, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan. Racine has a lovely lakefront, and was much cooler. There was a festival going on downtown, with bad heavy metal music, and rather sparsely attended, unlike the festivals here in Chicago. We both wished we had gone away for the entire weekend. Wisconsin really is becoming our summer home. Today I was feeling sluggish, and did pretty much nothing except shop for dinner. While I get closer to fifty, I still really appreciate getting a period, but it does make me move a lot slower. Tonight I did a few different meats on the grill. Grass fed rib eye steak that I marinated in olive oil, garlic, soy sauce, and Chinese hot mustard, turkey kabobs, and gorgonzola burgers. On the side, we shared a stuffed baked potato, and I made cauliflower with a mushroom and leek sauce. I filled one grocery bag at Whole Foods, and it was over $100. The cherries were on sale, like the clerk had told me they would be the last time I was there. I have a history of not being successful at getting the grill lit properly. Until I found one of those chimney things that gets filled with charcoal on top, and newspaper on the bottom. There's never a shortage of newspaper in the LuckyPenny household, and I love finding any way I can to discard them! My only complaint with that is that I don't get enough hot coals. I make lots of meat at one time, so we can have leftovers during the week, and I can get dinner done fairly quickly. Last week at KIP, a lady who I've never met before, Angela, had her project in a really cool Lexie Barnes bag. I decided that I wanted one, but did not necessarily want one that every one else has, too, even though I think the lacy skull print is really cool. Doing the rounds of blogs, I found that she has some discontinued patterns. An eBay search found a tote bag in the Poppy pattern that was described as being similar to Kaffe Fassett's design. Which is pictured above, knit by participants at the Brandon Mably workshop. I really want to do a dog sweater in this pattern. It would be really lovely with my new bag.
