It's Still a Knitting Blog

Even though I'm going to mention what I cooked tonight. Beef with Guinness. Brown 1.5 pounds of beef stew, add a few tablespoons of flour and let that brown. Add 1 onion, cut in chunks, 1 large potato, and about 1 C. of carotts. Add pepper, a bay leaf, and cover with beef broth, and one bottle of Guinness. Add about 6 ounces of prunes, and let the whole mess simmer until the meat is tender and the prunes have broken up into the gravy. Delicious. I got the recipe from an old friend who in the last few years has gotten too busy to bother with me, unless I get an e-mail that inclues 50+ of her closest friends. That all those addresses are now in my address book is so irritating to me. I really don't care to know how popular she is! Her perceived popularity won't last long, if my attitude is any indication. The original recipe was cooked in the oven. I made it on the stove, and added the potato. As odd as the addition of prunes seems, they really make a tasty gravy. That combination of sweet and savory, you know. I'd like to try adding them to chili--I think it would really work!
The Man and I are having dinner out tomorrow, unless he gets a chill, or decides he doesn't feel good 10 minutes before we prepare to leave. I'm hoping to go to Chinatown, if we can use an alternate route that doesn't involve going through downtown, with New Year's celebrations and the Bears game. More than likely, the Man will be fast asleep at the stroke of midnight. That's the usual New Year's Eve. I'm kind of over holidays with forced merriment. The thought of being in a room with a bunch of drunken people just doesn't appeal any more.
More vests cooking up at Lucky Penny's--this one is the Briar Rose design, the Sleeveless Eyelet Sweater, this time done with Blackberry Ridge's bulky weight wool/mohair blend. I love Blackberry Ridge yarns. I'm not sure if I like this sweater on me, but I get compliments when I wear it. The piece I posted yesterday is in the process of blocking, so should be a finished garment very soon!

Isn't it funny that what we think doesn't look good on us....other people think it looks GREAT on us....and the things I think look good on me, I never get a comment! I can never figure that one out!
Glad you are joining the Briar Rose KAL......the Eyelet Sleevless Sweater is just beautiful! Nice job!
Happy New year!

Sounds yummy - I will put that in the que to test on my brood. Actually it is making me hungry right now. I feel the same way about being with all of the drunk people - I don't enjoy watching them on TV as 'the ball drops' either.

Happy New Year!
