A Picture's Worth

These photos are from the last weekend that Agnes stayed with us. Agnes is freshly groomed, and looks spectacular and confident on the back deck. She's not wearing the sweater I designed for her (that will be in the Doggie Knits book bearing her name) because I gave up after chasing her around the apartment for five minutes trying to get it on. I think the look on Piccolo's face says it all. She looks just miserable here. Pekingese were bred to be companions for Chinese royalty. That's the only job. I think that's why pairing them can be unsuccessful. Thinking back, Penny really never forgave me for bringing Gidget into the house. My relationship with Piccolo is, maybe if you looked at it from the outside, a little odd. Piccolo loves the Man, but I'm the one she really wants. The relationship is emotional, and I must confess, physical. My face is on that little dog a lot! An acquaintance told be about how her dog had an abscess on his belly that she knew nothing about--in my world, that's not even a possibility because I'm constantly touching, cuddling, or kissing her. I think the competition between the two for my affections was going to escalate, and Piccolo, being a submissive creature, would have caved in, and perhaps, withered in the process. I think about Agnes a lot, and her legacy will be a part of my book, but I couldn't prolong Piccolo's misery.
